It all began with a group of Moms that wanted to have their own lip sync contest. A show for everyone to enjoy and that anyone can participate in. That show became The Monroe Lip Sync Contest and it opened in 2004. The goal was to have fun and showcase local talent. Knowing that this show might raise money, the 5 Moms decided that any money raised would go to a graduating senior from Monroe High School.

While the 5 Moms stay true to the original goals, they realized that they were somewhat short-sided. Producing a quality show was exciting and having the original idea realized was thrilling. But, it wasn’t until they gave the money to an aspiring senior that they understood their true goal.

Since its inception, the show has grown in every way possible-more talent, bigger audiences, and sponsors from local businesses. The lip sync event quickly became a must attend local event every year. Thus, the $300 scholarship awarded in 2004 has grown each year. Last year, the Lip Sync Committee awarded $3000 split between two graduating seniors.

Application Process: The committee reviews the scholarship applications and scores the applicants based on the following criteria:

  • Participation in the arts in High School
  • Intent to continue in the arts in College
  • Hardship
